Course Description
Media discourse analysis involves a systematic examination of the media message and the methods through which language, visual reports, and other elements are used to convey content to the audience. This course, through concentrated theoretical explanations and practical applications, will help participants understand how the media conveys impactful messages to the public. It will empower them to engage with media content with a critical perspective.
Course Objective
By the end of this course, participants will:
• Define the concepts of media discourse and apply discourse analysis tools.
• Analyze how media discourse is constructed and composed, and interact with its content.
• Deconstruct the concept of public opinion, its components, functions, types, and how it is influenced.
• Apply and use tools and techniques for media discourse analysis.

• Introduction to media discourse analysis:
- Deconstruct the concepts of discourse and analyzing discourse.
- Types of discourses and the position of media discourse within them.
- Clarify the features of templates used in journalism.
• Deconstruct elements of media discourse:
- Elements of the communication process.
- Analyze language and structure of media texts and their temporal and political context.
- Analyze the concept of news and news reports, their components, and sources.
• Impact and shape the public opinion:
- Identify news sources.
- Identify influential news institutions worldwide.
- Types of articles, editorials, angles, and their role in shaping public opinion.
• Practical applications:
- Review the production of a select group of article writers, columnists, cartoonists.
- Practice and apply tools for the analysis of media discourse.
