Course Description
While a documentary is a creative treatment of reality based on sound and animation, a photo documentary is a creative treatment of reality and story telling based on a series of stationary photographs aligned with text in a creative and textured dramatic construction. This pattern is uncommon in the Arab world, but the digital platforms allows journalists and creative content producers to adopt a different approach to an in-depth narration of stories and shed light on various problems in society.
Course Objective
By the end of the course, the trainee is expected to be able to:
- Use photography skills in dealing with social, cultural, anthropological and political issues.
- Build and narrate realistic stories using photographs and text.
Course Outline
- A look at photo-documentary and how it differs from the documentary (traditional)
- Optical composition and condensation.
- The relation between the picture and the text and which complements the other.
- Selection of the story and the angle of visual processing and editing.
- Planning, researching and developing elements of the story.
- Production of the story in the field through photographic documentation and information collection (practical application).
- Identifying the most important obstacles and how to address them.
- Building a story based on a series of photographs and press writing.
- Reviewing and editing the story and preparing it for publication.
