Course Description
A television photojournalist is a journalist who conveys news and ideas through both visuals and sound, using video cameras. They are capable of executing various television works, including dramas, documentaries, news programs, and sports coverage, both in-studio and in the field.
A television photojournalist should also be familiar with the nature of work in the digital media and computer technology fields, relying on a mastery of visual language and employing it to express emotions and translate ideas into visual content that viewers can easily understand.
This course has been designed to help television photojournalists understand the foundations and principles of television filming. It aims to develop their visual sense and unleash their creativity, enabling them to tell stories through images that resonate with the audience.
Course Objective
By the end of this course, participants will:
• Identify the fundamentals and concepts of television filming.
• Discuss techniques used in television filming.
• Enhance quality of photography by applying dramatic and aesthetic concepts.
• Differentiate between lighting techniques inside and outside the studio.
Course Outline
• Introduction to TV filming:
- TV work environment and the role of a television photographer.
- Concept of still photography and motion pictures and their relationship to realism.
- Concept of visual language.
- Primary and secondary colors.
• Technical concepts in TV filming:
- Light properties: reflection, refraction, and diffusion.
- Types of cameras, their components, and their functions.
- Concept of color temperature and its impact on the image.
- Choose appropriate lenses and filters.
• Dramatic and aesthetic concepts of filming:
- Camera movements and rules for choosing shooting angles.
- Lighting, visual elements, and rules of visual composition.
- Changing focal length and its dramatic effect on the image.
- Elements that affect the depth of field.
• Filming and lighting inside and outside the studio:
- Concept of indoor and outdoor lighting and the differences between them.
- Artificial and natural lighting and the differences between them.
- Filming and lighting interviews with multiple cameras inside the studio.
- Filming outdoor scenes or interviews with natural lighting.
