Course Description

Yaqoot Al-Mustasami said: "Calligraphy is a spiritual engineering that appeared with a physical machine that becomes stronger with addiction and weakens with abandonment."
A journey in the aesthetics of the art of Arabic calligraphy and the emergence of this art, which is the art of designing writing in various languages that depend on the Arabic letter which is the place that embraced the Arabic language and it is the pillar that preserved the Noble Qur’an, from the era of the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, until our present era, and it was also a reason for preserving the honorable Sunnah from the thirteenth century until the era of printing in addition to the various sciences of the Islamic religion.
The trainee will become familiar with the Arabic calligraphy tools used by the calligrapher, including: hard and glossy paper, ink, cutting knife and reed pen.
We will shed light on the stages of its preparation and how to use it at a specific angle to write on the line according to the balance of letters within the rules of Arabic calligraphy depending on the point and then write a set of letters and structures, ending with writing sentences and names.

Course Objective

• Studying the rules of Thuluth calligraphy and writing with a reed pen according to the scale of letters

Course Outline

• A historical introduction to the art of Arabic typography and types of typography, focusing on the rules of the Thuluth script, which is the focus of the workshop because it is the pillar of Arabic calligraphy and the most beautiful and widespread in Islamic civilization and the world.

• Explanation of the angle of the pen used and the beginning of writing the letters and the common syllables between the letters with the reed pen in detail according to the scale of the letters by adopting the point as a unit of measurement.

• Writing two connected letters and then three letters and explaining the changes that occur in the shapes of some letters when they are connected to each other.
• Training in writing some words and sentences in the thuluth script. In addition, write the names of the trainees present as a souvenir.
