AJMI launches Artificial Intelligence program in newsrooms

Al Jazeera Media Institute is getting ready to launch its new program "Artificial Intelligence in Newsrooms" in early August. The program is the first of its kind at the Institute, as it is presented by Ebtekar, a digital presenter, dealing with artificial intelligence technology at Aljazeera Media Institute.

 The program focusses on uses of Artificial Intelligence in newsrooms worldwide and addresses the various problems associated with AI utilization, starting from technical, skill, and physical barriers that make it difficult to integrate smart tools into many media organizations. In addition to dealing with challenges related to public trust in machine generated content and the growing concerns about potential impacts of AI on professional ethics.

 Mr. Hamad Al-Houl Al-Marri, Director of Planning and Projects Department at the Institute, said that the program reviews successful experiences around the world for utilizing smart tools in various stages of media content production, such as monitoring and follow-up, verifying news, combating systematic media disinformation, in addition to content writing and managing publishing and interaction operations.

The Director of Planning and Projects Department added that this program comes in the context of interactive digital programs, produced by Content Unit of his department, which aim to help journalists and students of journalism colleges to keep pace with rapid developments in media equipment, tools and treatments at the era of artificial intelligence.

 It is noteworthy that Al Jazeera Media Institute has launched since the beginning of this year four other programs, including "Terminologies" program, which explains common concepts and phrases in journalism language, "Philology" program, which sheds light on beauties of Arabic language and the nuances between its vocabulary, and "Open Coverage" program, which is considered as one of the most important references for students, trainees and newsroom workers in the field of preparing and managing continuous media coverage, in addition to "From the Place" program, which provides advice to workers in the field of television journalism.
