AJMI ORGANISES AL JAZEERA PRESS AND CLIMATE FORUM

AJMI - Doha

Al Jazeera Media Institute is organising the Al Jazeera Press and Climate Forum, entitled "Journalism in a Time of Climate Change" on February 27, via Zoom, with the participation of a group of specialists, journalists, media professionals and scientists.

This growing interest in climate issues and the urgent need to reflect on systematic and continuous media coverage that respects professional and ethical standards is what prompted Al Jazeera Media Institute to organise this forum in a context where scientific disinformation by organised and unorganised counter-movements is thriving.

This forum aims to raise awareness of the importance of specialized journalism in climate and its effects on society, and also aims to highlight Arab experiences in establishing climate journalism, in addition to creating a space for discussion between journalists and specialists on the future of climate journalism and shedding light on best journalistic practices to cover climate issues, as well as models of distinctive and influential coverage of climate issues regionally and globally.

The forum includes five 30-minute sessions, the first session entitled: "The reality of climate journalism in the Arab world", the second entitled: "Covering climate issues in developing countries", while the third session devotes an aspect to "the human story in climate journalism", the fourth session is entitled: "Writing techniques and the use of sources for climate issues", and the fifth session concludes the forum with the title: "The relationship between journalists and scientists."

The forum targets journalists who specialize in covering climate issues, as well as journalists in general and experts in climate science, as well as students of journalism institutes and colleges.
