Amid the raging public debate about the bias of Western media and weakness of local media to meet people societal needs in Arabic region, Al Jazeera Media Institute is organizing a special conference under the title: Arab Media and Belonging to the Global South, Independence and restoration of narrative.

The conference is going to be held in Istanbul from 9 to 11 August 2024, with the aim to discuss the most prominent challenges that prevent the existence of Arab media that tells the story of the region from the perspective of its people, and the liberal editorial formulas of Arab media as part of the Global South. The conference will also discusses supporting and enhancing independence and professionalism of Arab media, protecting local cultural identity, promoting diversity and openness to global experience and fighting for values and ethics of honest journalism.

Media directors, editors-in-chief, news managers, editors of key departments, representatives of press unions and associations, media academics and researchers, policy makers and representatives of regulatory bodies, representatives of NGOs and civil society groups, media consultants and communications experts can participate in this conference.

 How to apply for participation: Foundations/bodies have to nominate a representative. Given that participants have to cover their own travelling expenses, while the organizers will cover airport lifts and accommodation cost for two nights.
