Al Jazeera Media Institute concluded on Tuesday data journalism program presented by Peter Aldous, professor of journalism at the University of Berkeley, as part of a program for developing competencies of the channel's correspondents in cooperation with News Planning Department for Training at Al Jazeera Channel.

This program was specially designed for a team of journalists in the newsroom, and was held from 13 to 21 of August for 26 field reporters.

The trainer said: In this course, the participants were briefed on how data is analyzed using processes such as filtering, sorting, grouping or summarizing and merging, as well as identifying the sources from which data is collected and how to search the Internet for such sources and methods of uploading them.

He added: "At the end of the course, I hope that participants have acquired the basic skills to display data using graphs and maps and ways to apply these principles using a dedicated tool to display data, as we, during the course, analyzed examples of data-driven stories in addition to workshops on suitable story ideas for trainees.

The trainee, Al-Mokhtar Al-Ablawi, correspondent of Al-Jazeera in Morocco, considered his participation in the data journalism course a quality addition to him as a correspondent, indicating the importance of training for correspondents and describe it as an investment with a positive return in the medium and short term.
