Announcement of winners of "Al Jazeera Award for best humanitarian feature story"

Al Jazeera Media Institute has announced the winners of Al JazeeraAward for Best humanitarian feature dtory, an award launched by the Institute to restore recognition to in-depth, reflective journalism and to encourage compelling human-centered storytelling in covering genocides, wars, conflicts, and issues of asylum and migration. It worth mentioning that, more than 130 male and female journalists representing various Arab countries took part in the competition, with notably strong participation from Sudan and Palestine.
The first prize in this year’s edition was awarded to Uday Al-Abdullah from Syria. Inam Al-Nour Saleh from Sudan scored the second place, while Israa Mohammed Al-Balawi from Palestine won third place. Fourth place was jointly awarded to Huda Al-Hanaifa from Jordan and Khaled Aslan from Palestine.
The award aims to celebrate the best written humanitarian stories supported by pictures, distinguished by originality of approach, strength of narrative and rigorous field research. It also seeks to document suffering of victims, highlight repercussions of crises on their daily lives and preserving collective memory in the face of oblivion.
Winning works selection was based on professional criteria, including originality of idea and angle, journalistic storytelling quality, strength of documentation and field research, as well as adherence to ethical and humanitarian standards in addressing victims’ issues. A jury comprising journalists from various sectors of Al Jazeera Media Network was entrusted to evaluate submitted works and select the winners.
