Course Description

Food photography is not an easy thing as we might think. Composition, lighting, angles, backgrounds, colors, montage and editing are all important in creating an integrated image with food photography.

Course Objective

By the end of this course, participants will:
• Explain the aesthetic and technical principles of food photography.
• Understand the relationship between lighting, colors, and composition in food images.
• Recognize the fundamentals of color correction and image processing suitable for food photography.

Course Outline

• Introduction to food photography:
- Camera capabilities in smartphones and essential mobile photography equipment.
- Fundamentals of image composition: lighting, shooting angles, visual balance, and shot types suitable for food.
- Analysis of successful food photography examples (How is the shot constructed? What makes the image visually appealing?).

• Lighting, food styling, and scene composition:
- Types of lighting suitable for mobile food photography: natural and artificial.
- Simple tools for light control (reflectors, white sheets, translucent curtains, etc.).
- Food styling and color selection: the relationship between food, background, props, and fabrics.
- Build a visual story: arrange elements within the frame and convey the "appetite appeal" of food through the image.

• Photo editing with mobile and professional publishing:
- Mobile photo editing applications (Snapseed, Lightroom Mobile, VSCO): key features of each app and when to use them.
- Color adjustment, saturation, sharpness, and contrast to highlight food details.
- Best practices for publishing on social media (image dimensions for each platform, captions, image formats, etc.).
