Course Description
A TV photojournalist is a journalist who conveys the news and the idea in image and sound using the video camera, and he is able to carry out any television work, drama, documentary, news or sports program... outside and inside the studio.
The photojournalist is also familiar with the nature of work in the field of digital media and computer technology, relying on mastering the visual language and employing it to express feelings and translate the idea into a visual material that is easily accepted by the viewer.
Hence, this course, with its new design, came to make the TV photojournalist well understand the foundations and principles of television photography, develop his visual sense, and liberate his creativity to start writing with the image in a way that is acceptable to the recipient.
Course Objective
At the end of the session, participants should:
- Understand the operating systems of the different cameras and their parts.
- Know the fundamentals of the TV filming.
- The ability to formulate any topic in the picture through the good construction of scenes that express the idea.
- Understand globally recognized technical and technical terms to work in a team.
- Understand language and visual composition and its dramatic and aesthetic concepts.
- Realizing the importance of the relationship of the television photographer with directing, editing and lighting designers.
- Obtaining introductions to lighting and sound, as it has become part of news photography tasks.
Course Outline
• Theoretical and technical concepts:
- The TV working environment and the position of the cameraman in this environment.
- The concept of photography, the motion picture, and their link to reality.
- Concept of the visual language: Reflection, refraction and diffusion.
- The primary and secondary colors that make up the television image.
- The concept of visual language.
- The relationship between the cameraman, the director and the light designer.
- Planning and management of the shooting.
- Types of cameras and its composition (camera parts and function of each one of them).
- Concept of white balance, the color temperature, and their impact on the picture.
- The relationship of focal length, sharpness, distance and the interactions between them.
- How to choose the appropriate lenses for the subject.
- Filters or (filters) and their effect on light.
• Aesthetical and drama concepts of filming:
- Rules for choosing the shooting angle (perspective, background, light source).
- How to build scenes and write in the picture.
- Visual elements and the rules of visual formation and its relationship to the theory of perception.
- The types, sizes and angles of shots and their functions in terms of aesthetics, montage, and drama.
- Change the focal length and dramatic effect on the image.
- Elements that affect the depth of field of an image.
- Camera movements and their implications.
The aesthetic concept of lighting and its relationship to visual composition.
• Shooting and lighting inside and outside the studio:
- Introduction to the concept of internal and external lighting and the difference between them.
- Shooting and lighting an interview with multiple cameras in the studio.
- Shooting an external sequence or an interview with natural lighting.
- Shooting integrated scenes ready for montage and subject building.
