Al Jazeera Media Institute and the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, 10 September, to expand avenues of research and media cooperation.

Under the agreement, the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies will work with Al Jazeera Media Institute across several areas, notably media production, studies and research, and joint publications. The partnership also includes organising seminars, conferences, workshops, and specialised training programmes covering a wide range of topics, including conflict, mediation and negotiation; humanitarian work; governance, recovery and public policy; disasters and displacement; peace, security and peacebuilding; and media in conflict and humanitarian settings.

Eman Al Amri, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, said the memorandum of understanding “marks the beginning of a path we hope will translate into concrete action," adding that “our partnership with the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies is built on a shared belief in the importance of knowledge, and in the fact that professional media requires continuous training, rigorous research, and partnerships that keep pace with the rapid transformations shaping our world."

She expressed her hope that the MoU “will open up new horizons for cooperation in training, media production, consultancy and research, content translation, and the publication of joint works," voicing her aspiration for “a successful partnership that brings together our combined expertise and knowledge, and leaves a lasting impact."

For his part, Dr Ghassan Elkahlout, Director of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, said that “our partnership with Al Jazeera Media Institute offers an important opportunity to bring together complementary expertise in media and in conflict and humanitarian studies." He expressed his hope that “joint training, research and knowledge exchange, alongside a deeper understanding of the complex environments in which journalists operate, will help strengthen professional capabilities and promote thoughtful engagement with the intricate challenges associated with conflicts and humanitarian work."

This step represents a practical translation of the institutions' shared commitment to enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise, developing specialised capacities, and encouraging collaboration on issues at the intersection of media, conflict and humanitarian action through training, research and dialogue.
