AJMI - Doha
Ministers of Finance and Health of Sudan’s Northern State visit Al Jazeera Media Institute
Al Jazeera Media Institute concluded, over a two-week period, Shireen Abu Akleh Program 2025 dedicated to four Palestinian journalists. The program was implemented in cooperation with the United Nations from 16 to 27 November.
The program included intensive workshops, starting with a lecture on the value of journalism in digital era delivered by Montaser Marai, acting director of 360 Department, followed by a workshop on ethics of journalism conducted by journalist Mohammed Khamaiseh and a training workshop on “AI-powered content production” conducted by expert Yahya Salem. In the second week, activities included a session on journalists’ professional safety, an introductory tour of Al Jazeera Network channels, a meeting on television correspondent skills presented by journalist Najwan Samri and “news verification course” delivered by trainer Mohammed Al-Zaanin from Sanad News Monitoring Agency, including field training at Digital Sector headquarters. The program concluded with “data journalism course” led by trainer Mohammed Al-Haddad, in addition to various professional meetings across several sectors of Aljazeera Network aimed at enriching experience of trainees and enhancing their practical skills.

In the same context, Majdi Walid, one of the program participants, stated that this experience gave him the opportunity to explore work mechanisms across several platforms of Al Jazeera Network, including Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Jazeera English, and Al Jazeera Mubasher. He added: “I learned about modern technologies used in media work and reinforced my knowledge in journalism and media through advanced professional training. I consider it as a distinctive experience that I am proud of and that represents an important addition to my professional career in media.”
Dalia Al-Masri, another participant in the program, described the experience as beautiful and intensive, noting the high competence of trainers, each in his field. She said: “I learned a lot in artificial intelligence and news production course, and I will work on preparing more investigative reports based on data, and delve deeper into its analysis and verification.” She confirmed that the program allowed her to closely engage with diverse journalistic expertise and gain insight into the professional side of Al Jazeera Network, marking an important milestone in her media career.
It is worth noting that in 2022, the United Nations named a program for training Palestinian media professionals in New York after the late Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, in commemoration of her memory and in appreciation of her courage and commitment to professional values in conveying the truth.
