AJMI -Doha
Al Jazeera Media Institute is organizing “Journalism in Times of War” Forum to coincide with World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2026, bringing together a distinguished group of journalists and academics from across Arab world.
The forum, to be held online over two days, May 3rd and 4th., comes at a time where journalists in the field face unprecedented challenges in delivering live and reliable coverage, while newsrooms navigate complex media environments shaped by consequences of wars, such as conflicting information and spread of propaganda, prompting a critical reassessment of reporting tools, professional standards, and pro per ways in which accurate journalistic knowledge can be produced without falling into oversimplification or misinformation.
The forum aims to open an in-depth dialogue on these pressing issues over two days. The first day will feature two sessions addressing professional ethics in war coverage, presenting field experiences and testimonies shared by both academics and frontline journalists. While the second day will focus on key questions emerging from real-world reporting, including: Do sources shape the nature of war coverage? And has Gaza redefined the concept of reporting on wars?
In addition to panel discussions, the forum will offer practical workshops led by specialized journalists from Al Jazeera Network. These workshops aim to equip participants with tools for verification using open sources, as well as techniques for identifying AI-generated content. Also, a specialized two-days webinar will be held to explore features (human- story) production mechanisms and its significance during wars and crises.
The forum contributes to fostering ongoing dialogue on journalism-related issues, empowering journalists to critical thinking of journalistic practices and enhancing their ability to produce responsible coverage that preserves dignity of victims, counters misinformation and reaffirms journalism as a testimony to truth.
