AJMI launches “Al Jazeera Week” in Malaysia

Al Jazeera Media Institute, in cooperation with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) University in Kuala Lumpur, organized "Al Jazeera Week" event which started on Monday, October 7th throughout Friday, October 11th. The first day of the event included signing of a memorandum of understanding between Dr. Mustapha Sawak, Acting Director General of Al Jazeera Network and The Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim, the President of UiTM.

 Activities of Al Jazeera Week witnessed organizing the second edition of the Digital Media Forum, which aims to stimulate discussion on media issues and the future of the journalism practices. Experts from various departments of Al Jazeera Network, Malaysian journalists and academics have enriched the debate on these issues.

 Participants addressed a range of vital topics, including news verification, data journalism, and challenges facing journalists in the digital era. The forum witnessed the participation of 700 university students and an elite Malaysian journalists and academics.

 Al Jazeera Week also comprised five training courses as part of Al Jazeera Ambassadors Initiative, in which nearly 100 students from the Faculty of Journalism participated. The courses focused on important media areas including: mobile journalism, documentary film, investigative journalism, and data journalism.

 Dr. Mustafa Swak said on this occasion that Al Jazeera Week organized by UiTM is one of the most important training activities organized since the launch of the network, and the first integrated training event organized by Al Jazeera Media Institute in English only.

 It has also been announced during the event the launch of a competition to select five university students to participate in a four-month training program at the network's headquarters in Doha.
