AJMI launches a program on "Media Translation"
AJMI - Doha
The Al Jazeera Media Institute has launched a new online programme exploring media translation. Presented by Mowaffaq Fayek Tawfiq, a colleague with considerable experience in translation and translator training, the programme examines the skills needed for textual and editorial translation, the necessary qualifications, and the specific features that distinguish it from other types of translation, as well as its various forms.
Mowaffaq Tawfiq focuses on different types of oral translation, including whispering, consecutive, and sight translation, explaining the unique characteristics of each and the necessary preparation and resources. The programme also covers simultaneous interpreting, which is crucial for satellite channels' live coverage of seminars, conferences, and addresses by heads of state.
Drawing on decades of accumulated experience, the trainer discusses the rules and ethics of this craft, highlighting the advanced skills required. These skills extend beyond linguistic knowledge to a deep understanding of cultural nuances, traditions, and modes of expression.
