AJMI opens applications for Aljazeera Fellowship Program 2026

Al Jazeera Media Institute announces opening of applications for participation in Al Jazeera Fellowship Program 2026, designed for journalists and researchers interested in conducting scholarly research on issues related to journalism and media. The three-month program provides a unique opportunity for participants to benefit from working environment of Al Jazeera Media Network and to access its diverse resources and expertise, including archives, library, and newsroom equipment.
The fellowship areas include journalism and the Global South, such as redefining journalistic practice in local contexts, impact of colonialism and globalization, one-way data flow, influence of Western funding and the role of journalism in transitional phases or in documenting war crimes. They also include digital journalism, covering narrative transformations across platforms, media economics, role of social media, fact-checking in the age of artificial intelligence, new technologies in newsrooms and data journalism. The program also explores emerging approaches in journalism such as photo-documentaries, slow and environmental journalism, and podcasts, in addition to journalistic ethics, countering hate speech, in addition to challenges facing media institutions, from digital transformation to development of journalism schools in Arab world.
The program targets journalists and researchers holding bachelor's degrees with at least two years of experience in media field, as well as strong research and writing skills in both Arabic and English languages. Participants are required to prepare a research paper of approximately 7,000 words on a journalism or media-related topic. Application should include a curriculum vitae, samples of previous work, two recommendation letters, and a research proposal of 700–1,000 words.
Fellowship program provides a comprehensive grant that covers travel and accommodation expenses and allows participants to engage directly with editors-in-chief and journalists to discuss research topics in a supportive professional environment. It also offers an opportunity to explore a variety of research themes including journalism in Global South, digital transformations, new journalistic methods, media ethics and challenges facing media organizations.
