AJMI releases new publication: “Bearing Witness Alone"

AJMI - Doha

The Media Initiatives Department of Al-Jazeera Media Institute has released a new book titled "Bearing Witness Alone: Journalists Testimonies from Gaza and the West Bank," documenting the experiences of Palestinian journalists during their coverage of the war in Gaza.

During the launch event, attended by several Al Jazeera's journalists, the director of the institute, Eman Al-Amri, welcomed the audience and described the book as a significant work. She praised the efforts of the Media Initiatives team, particularly Mohammed Ihdad and Mohammed Zaidan, in editing and documenting testimonials from a group of journalists who conveyed the tragedy of the Gaza war to the world. These journalists witnessed the horrors of the war, including massacres, killings, starvation, as well as their personal suffering of losing loved ones and the displacement of their families. Al-Amri also revealed plans to translate the book into several languages soon.

Mohammed Ihdad, the editor of the book, emphasised that these testimonials are not just passing narratives but historical documents that will be recorded for future generations. He confirmed that the book exposes the falsehood of simplified narratives that link the war to a specific event, emphasising the depth of the Palestinian tragedy.

The book includes testimonials from 16 journalists who represent the voice of Palestinian journalists, who faced the war alone after the occupation authorities closed off Gaza to international press and international organisations abandoned them. The book presents details that will be presented to readers for the first time.
