The Jazeera Media Institute organized a ceremony on Tuesday, June 6th, to launch the printed version of the book "Sherine Abu Akla: A Journalistic Biography," which was released on the first anniversary of her assassination.

During his speech at the event, Dr. Mustafa Sawwak, the Acting Director-General of the agency, emphasized the book's invaluable significance, as it encapsulates Shireen Abu Akleh's journalistic prowess while underscoring the institute's commitment to instilling exemplary journalistic practices. Indeed, this seminal work serves as a profound testament to the late Shireen’s enduring legacy.

Eman Al Amri, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, passionately highlighted the institute's overarching vision. The book, she emphasized, represents a crucial stride towards providing Arab journalists with a comprehensive library that illuminates virtuous practices within the field.

Al Amri further underscored that this edition stands as the institute's foremost achievement this year, solidifying the professional and ethical standards championed by Shireen Abu Akleh throughout her illustrious 25-year tenure at Al Jazeera. Undoubtedly, it emerges as an indispensable instructional guide for aspiring journalists.

The ceremony included a recorded speech by Waleed Al Omary, Al Jazeera's Bureau Chief in Palestine, who spoke about the value of the book and its role in documenting the experience of the late colleague Shireen Abu Akleh.

Dr. Mohamed Al-Baqali, Al Jazeera's correspondent in France and a contributor to the book, explained that this work is a systematic study based on the analysis of Shireen Abu Akleh's reports over more than two decades. The study aimed to extract the fundamental professional values that distinguished her work through a selection of 50 reports as a research sample.

The ceremony concluded with a speech by Dr. Hayat Al-Hariri, who contributed to the preparation of the book. She discussed the methodology used in analyzing Shireen Abu Akleh's reports and highlighted the key professional standards derived from those reports, which she believed should be disseminated to Arab journalism colleges as a reference guide for journalists in the field of field coverage.

It is worth mentioning that the book is published by the Media Initiatives Department at the Jazeera Media Institute. It was prepared by Dr. Mohamed Al-Baqali and Dr. Hayat Al-Hariri, and edited by colleagues Mohamed Khamayesa and Mohamed Ahaddad.​
