AJMI strengthens its leadership at Africa Facts Summit in Dakar

AJMI - Dakar
“Media for Development” initiative, of Al Jazeera Media Institute, participated in Africa Facts Summit held in Dakar, Senegal, on the first and second of current October.
The institute held a series of workshops and panels addressing the latest developments in news industry. Its contribution was marked by holding a short seminar on “How do we produce news in the age of Artificial Intelligence?”, to discuss impact of modern technologies on media industry, focusing on verification and credibility tools amid the rapid pace of digital transformation.
On the sidelines of the summit, the institute launched a professional workshop on “fundamentals of storytelling”, conducted by Rwandan trainer Rémy Nsabimana in collaboration with the French platform AJ+, attended by more than one hundred journalists from various African countries.
The institute also held two training courses: the first, on “Fact-checking in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” for a group of African journalists; and the second on “How to select and produce content that works well on Social Media,” in partnership with the AJ+ France.
This contribution reaffirms Al Jazeera Media Institute’s commitment to promoting a culture of fact-checking and keeping pace with technological transformations in media landscape. It also reinforces institute’s expanding presence in influential regions such as Senegal, reflecting its leadership in developing journalists’ skills worldwide.
It worth mentioning, the Africa Facts Summit, now in its fourth edition, brings together a wide range of fact-checking organizations and information credibility experts from across the continent. The summit’s convening in Dakar comes at a time when misinformation and credibility challenges are on the rise in African societies, making the event a strategic step toward strengthening cooperation to addressing and dealing with these issues
