AJMI - Bangladesh
A team from Al Jazeera Media Institute carried out a professional tour in Bangladesh as part of “Media for Development” initiative. The visit included several journalism colleges and media institutions with the aim of strengthening academic and professional partnerships and designing programs for journalism education development and training journalists.
The tour featured lectures and discussions that focused on the value of journalism in the digital age and importance of restoring profession’s core values, particularly in the aftermath of the war on Gaza and targeting of Palestinian journalists.
Highlights of the visit included a tour of Media Department at University of Dhaka, the largest in the country, as well as Media Department at Liberal Arts University, where discussions were held on organizing specialized training courses for journalism students in universities of the capital city as a first step.
At the professional level, the Institute held a seminar in collaboration with the Institute of Journalism, investigative journalists, and Derek Academy specialized in photojournalism.
This visit comes within the framework of “Media for Development” program, an initiative launched by Al Jazeera Media Institute to empower communities and individuals with media tools and to strengthen the role of journalism in supporting vital issues such as democracy, governance, health, and education. The initiative includes offering free online training courses, organizing workshops, and supporting independent media initiatives to develop journalists’ skills and foster knowledge exchange. It is worth noting that the Institute has carried out similar tours this year in Rwanda, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.
