Conclusion of two specialized courses for 30 Yemeni media professionals under “Al Jazeera Ambassadors” Initiative

 AJMI– Doha

Al Jazeera Media Institute has concluded a package of specialized media training courses as part of Aljazeera Ambassadors initiative. Thirty trainees from Yemeni media institutions benefited from two programs focused on developing sports coverage skills and open-source investigations, under the supervision of experts specialized in these fields.

Sports event coverage for the Yemeni Association for Sports Media

Within this framework, media professional Ahmed Al-Subaie trained 18 participants in a course focusing on sports event coverage organized for the Yemeni Association for Sports Media. The program focused on enabling participants to distinguish between reading written news and the dynamic nature of live coverage, while also applying critical thinking and communication skills during live broadcasting. In addition, the course highlighted common mistakes in live reporting and methods to avoid them in order to ensure balanced and professional content delivery. Trainee Mohammed Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for training content, noting that what impressed him most was the remarkable balance between academic theoretical framework and practical expertise, which contributed to a sound understanding of the link between sports management and media marketing for events. Ibrahim also suggested increasing sessions dedicated to practical simulations of live sports events, due to their important role in sharpening skills for dealing with unexpected developments during events. He further emphasized the need to focus more on publishing strategies across social media platforms and on clubs’ digital sports communities’ management and sports federations.

Open-Source Investigations for Shabab House Platform

In a related context, trainer Jabr Jomaa concluded a training program for 12 participants in open-source investigations for Yemeni digital platform

Shabab House. The course focused on understanding investigative methodologies based on open sources, developing advanced research skills using artificial intelligence tools, analyzing digital data and identifying patterns, verifying images, videos, and geolocations, as well as strengthening digital identity protection skills during investigative work, ultimately enabling participants to build evidence-based journalistic investigations supported by digital proof. Participant Afrah Humaid explained that what she admired most about the course was the practicality of tools provided and their suitability for daily professional work, and how they empower journalists to access accurate information and confront misinformation attempts. She added that she looks forward to joining an advanced data journalism course to further develop her path in digital investigative journalism.

These courses come as part of the commitment of Al Jazeera Media Institute to support initiatives aimed at developing capacities of media professionals across Arab world and enhancing their ability to produce solid professional content in the fields of sports journalism and investigative reporting based on open sources and digital data.
