In cooperation with UNESCO, the Institute launches "Media coverage of disability issues" course in Damascus

Al Jazeera Media Institute announces launching of a specialized training course in the Syrian capital, Damascus, under the title: Media coverage of disability issues, in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), within the framework of Media for Development Initiative.
The course aims to enhance journalistic skills on disability issues through a four-day hands-on training in Damascus for Syrian media organizations.
The course focuses on professional coverage of disability issues, producing accessible content that ensures information reaches all groups and promoting diversity and equity newsroom practices.
The course target journalists, editors, information checkers, technicians and liaisons personnel interested in developing their skills in this field, with priority given to journalists with disabilities and those working in high-risk areas.
The course aims to enhance professional and human rights coverage of disability issues through enabling participants to produce accessible content that ensures access to all groups. The program also addresses development of inclusive newsroom practices that combat disability-related stereotypes. It also includes learning to write human stories and conduct disability-related interviews, contributing to fair and inclusive media coverage.
Enrollment conditions: an applicant must have at least one year of professional experience in journalism, information auditing or content production, in addition to a university certificate or professional training in media. Applicants must be fully committed to attending all training days and actively participating, in addition to proficient use of computers and Internet. All participants are also required to produce an informational material on the subject of disability at the end of the course. The deadline for registration is October 13.
