The Institute publishes the Turkish version of the book "Alone We Covered the War"

AJMI - Doha
Al Jazeera Media Institute recently published the Turkish version of the book "Alone We Covered the War, press testimonies from Gaza Strip and the West Bank", thus translated into four languages: English, French, Spanish and Turkish, as part of the Institute's project to document humanitarian and media testimonies in conflict zones.

Turkish journalist and researcher Taha Klinkç writes in his introduction to the Turkish version: "These testimonies were not only written to stir reader's feelings or draw his tears, but it overcomes that to deeper understanding, as each of these testimonies carries lessons and meanings that cannot be ignored. Perhaps the most striking expression of its essence is what Amal Habib said: "Isn't journalism, in essence, a form of resistance?"

In his introduction, Klinksch added that, the book offers more than just journalistic observation, but in fact it’s a heroic narrative of resistance, hope and documentation. He went on to say "Writing is a testimony, when Man writes, he bears witness to himself, to his time, to what is happening around him, and even to present this testimony in the name of all humanity. Perhaps, sometimes, he writes so that he doesn't get forgotten”.

Highlighting tragedy of Gaza, he points out that journalists there were not mere reporters of events, but living witnesses to the genocide, saying that "What journalists of Gaza have done will gain clarity and recognition through time. They didn’t tell us of what was happening only, but also how they resisted pain, how they planted hope in the midst of death."

Klinc concludes his introduction with a frequently heard question in Turkey: "How Palestinians keep up to their determination and hope despite all that they have been through?", he answered, “This book is the answer to that question, not only as a document, but as a road map for the honor of living, resilience, and the right to tell."

Publishing this book in Turkish language comes within the framework of Al Jazeera Media Institute's vision to promote peoples' narratives through Witness Journalism and Field Journalism, and to open cultural windows to a global audience in a human language that goes beyond literal translation to carry feeling, meaning and memory.
