AJMI - Doha
Al Jazeera Media Institute continues presenting its programs to teach Arabic to non-native speakers under the supervision of "Learn Arabic" platform team. In an interactive learning environment that integrates language with the media and cultural context, 62 trainees from multiple cultural backgrounds joined this training program.
The six ongoing programs are divided into three main levels: A, B and C, covering a wide range of basic language and developing skills, such as listening comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking, as well as language structures and oral communication that comply with requirements of each stage.
The courses also include a special program dealing with " Media Language ", to target journalists and those interested in media affairs and seeking to develop their capabilities in translation from Arabic language to English language, and to understand media texts in a professional manner.
The human and cultural nature of the programs is highlighted by the diversity of the participants' motivations; while some of them joined for professional or academic purposes, others came with a personal motivation or for their passion for the language itself. As one of trainees says that, his journey with Arabic language began for family reasons, but he found himself taken by the aesthetics of the language and its cultural depth, adding: "Language has become for me more than means of communication, it's a gateway to understanding a rich world."
These programs reflect commitment of Al Jazeera Media Institute to supporting learning Arabic language and enabling non-native speakers to acquire the language in modern contexts that link knowledge with expression in order to bridges understanding gap between people and cultures.
The trainee's journey starts by the first part of the program with a book titled "The Book" to acquire language basics, then delves into the second part through vital communication expressions and tasks in “Arabic Media” using Aljazeera media texts. Then trainees move on to advanced levels of journalistic discourse analysis and article writing through intensive interactive workshops to help them to choose, later, a specialized track that comply with their own interests in media, diplomacy or business and commerce.
