Our Strategy
This programme is not a spur-of-the-moment creation; rather, it comes to serve as a broad umbrella encompassing numerous initiatives and projects that Al Jazeera Media Institute has been undertaking for years. Thousands of journalists who aspire to serve the public interest in their communities and lead them towards positive change benefit from these initiatives and projects.
Media Initiatives
Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) believes in the public's right to access reliable information and seeks to enhance the role of media in serving communities and changing people's lives for the better. The institute can achieve these aims through implementing several initiatives and programmes.
Orientations
Why "Media for Development"?
The media and its extent of independence and freedom are closely linked to development, and today it has become an effective means of supporting humanitarian efforts around the world and facing the challenges resulting from the absence of democracy and freedom of expression, wars, humanitarian crises, poverty, inadequate healthcare and low levels of education.
Media as a Tool of Development
Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) relies on its sources of knowledge from the newsrooms of Al Jazeera channels and various digital platforms. Today, it holds a prominent position in the Arab and global media spheres through its contributions to enriching content and making it available to journalists free of charge through Al Jazeera Journalism Review, publications and journalistic references.
The institute also encourages research through Al Jazeera Fellowship Programme and conducts training courses around the world as part of Al Jazeera Ambassadors Programme. Moreover, it places emphasis on initiatives that empower female journalists and enhance their presence in the media landscape.
With the emergence of Sustainable Development Goals as a global priority, AJMI is committed to keeping journalists in the Arab region and its surroundings updated with the latest tools and knowledge, enabling them to drive development in areas where such issues are not considered a top priority in journalistic work.
Who Are our partners of development?
Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) works on launching developmental initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions, civil society organisations, international media institutions and governments, with the aim of empowering local communities, individuals and institutions with media tools.
