AJMI - Doha

The Al Jazeera Media Institute, in co-operation with the Middle East Council for International Affairs, has organised a specialised training workshop titled "Meet the Press" on media handling skills. The workshop, held  in Doha, formed part of the activities of the Al Jazeera Ambassadors' voluntary initiative.

Seventeen researchers and academics from various universities participated in the workshop. It was presented by Folly Bah Thibault, a colleague and presenter on the Al Jazeera English Channel, and incorporated interactive training sessions focused on developing practical media skills.

Key topics discussed during the workshop included understanding the media landscape, managing media appearances professionally, dealing with difficult questions during various forms of media interviews, and how to convey influential messages in situations of conflict. The workshop also featured exercises that included simulations and mock interviews.

Trainee Nora Al-Shuaibi commented: "The workshop was enjoyable, and I was impressed by the trainer's ability to answer our questions despite our diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. The trainer was keen to provide us with media tools to enhance our presence in the media."
