AJMI develops journalism students’ skills in Tunisia
AJMI - Tunisia
Al Jazeera Media Institute’s “Media for Development” initiative has concluded a specialised training programme in the Tunisian capital, implemented in partnership with the Institute of Press and Information Sciences, and targeting media and journalism students. This cooperation marks the second joint programme between the two institutions in the past three years.
The programme delivered six intensive training courses over five days, totalling 30 training hours per course. Eighty male and female students took part, distributed across the six courses as follows: 11 participants in digital bulletins production, 14 in managing digital newsrooms, 18 in AI-powered content production, 12 in television reporting in the digital age, 12 in open-source investigations, and 13 in podcast production.
The programme also featured two open workshops designed to reach a wider group of students and interested participants. The opening workshop, titled “Semiology of the Image”, brought together 57 trainees, while the closing workshop, “News monitoring and its tools”, attracted 77 participants.
This programme forms part of the “Media for Development” initiative’s efforts to support and qualify a new generation of media professionals in the Arab world by providing high-quality training opportunities that keep pace with rapid changes in the media industry. It aims to enhance students’ skills and equip them with modern digital journalism tools.
The initiative believes in the importance of investing in media and journalism students as future content creators and leaders of the media landscape. Through its partnerships with Arab academic institutions, it seeks to build bridges between media education and professional practice, in ways that improve the quality of media output and serve development issues in the region.
