She took part in a session titled “Artificial Intelligence in Media: Opportunities and ethical challenges,” where she addressed the role of media in disseminating knowledge and highlighting social justice. She emphasized the need to reorient focus toward identifying marginalized groups in the age of artificial intelligence and understanding factors contributing to deepening this marginalization, whether due to limited access, lack of technology, or insufficient training that enables fair competition.

In her remarks, Dr. Mei stressed importance of establishing clear ethical foundations and standards for using of artificial intelligence in media and other institutions. She underscored the necessity of training media professionals in digital ethics, as well as equipping various segments of society with critical thinking skills to counter misinformation risks. She also highlighted AI positive potentials in advancing social justice within media sector, and its broader application in promoting science and knowledge under safe usage frameworks and specialist supervision.

The seminar also addressed several key themes, including artificial intelligence impact on labor markets and digital transformation, ways to ensure comprehensive social protection within digital economy, and importance of aligning technological innovation with human rights standards. She also stressed importance of preventing deep inequalities and ensuring that no one is left behind.

The seminar, attended by 74 participants, was organized in cooperation with the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Regional Office for Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with the National Human Rights Committee of the State of Qatar, Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, and with participation of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), alongside Al Jazeera Media Institute, as part of the commemoration of the World Day of Social Justice 2026.
