The Al Jazeera Media Institute took part in the 19th International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy. During the festival, the Institute organised several events and discussions, most notably a panel discussion that explored methods for developing global journalism to better serve the needs of countries in the Global South.

The session examined how to achieve equilibrium in global media coverage by empowering local journalists to address their communities' concerns and by prioritising coverage of people and society, independent of political and economic factors.

Furthermore, the Al Jazeera Media Institute convened another event that gathered representatives from international organisations involved in supporting and developing media in the Arab world and beyond. At this event, Ahmed Abu Hamad, a colleague, presented the Institute's key programmes and projects, underscoring its efforts in advancing Arab journalism, strengthening platforms for debate, and cultivating media education pathways.

The events featured contributions from network colleagues, notably the investigative unit's work presented by Rafi Mustafa, alongside a presentation by Catherine Wambuausi from the Africa bureau on the network's strategy for supporting local journalism across the continent and enabling journalists to share the stories of their communities.

Concurrently, the Institute organised a special meeting with Syrian journalists attending the festival, where colleague Montaser Marai reviewed the Institute's work in Syria since 2011 and discussed potential future collaborations to support and develop Syrian media.
