AJMI PUBLISHES A BOOK ON JOURNALISM ETHICS

AJMI - Doha

The Al Jazeera Media Institute has recently published a book entitled, Al-Jami' fi Akhlaq Al-Sahafa -The Comprehensive Guide to Journalism Ethics. This publication offers a solid theoretical foundation for journalists to embrace virtuous practices and uphold professional ethics.

Developed through a collaboration between the Al Jazeera Media Institute and the National Press Council in Morocco, the book encompasses five main chapters divided into nearly 50 subheadings, spanning over 250 pages. It comprehensively covers various ethical aspects of journalistic practices and provides practical examples that serve as a valuable reference for journalists.

The book commences with an introductory definition of journalism ethics and its fundamental principles, emphasizing the significance of digital journalism. It then delves into an elaborate explanation of the regulatory frameworks governing journalism ethics. This includes an in-depth discussion on the roles of councils and institutional structures in regulating ethical journalistic practices. Furthermore, the book explores the essential aspects of ethical journalistic practice and their practical applications in day-to-day journalistic work, taking into account the specific nature of different journalistic genres. Notably, the book concludes by presenting a systematic approach to ethical decision-making within newsrooms, particularly when faced with emerging ethical dilemmas.

It is worth noting that Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Rami, a professor at the Higher Institute of Media and Communication in Morocco, authored the book, which was edited by colleagues Mohamed Ahdad and Muhammad Alkhamaiseh from the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
