AJMI released an updated digital edition of “We Covered the War Alone”
AJMI - Doha
Al Jazeera Media Institute has released an updated digital edition of the book “We covered the war alone” after adding 10 testimonies of male and female journalists from Gaza Strip and the West Bank, bringing the total number of published testimonies to 26.
The book presents long, detailed field testimonies that shed light on the conditions of journalistic work under bombardment and siege, loss and daily dangers faced by journalists, in addition to professional and ethical questions imposed by covering events during moments of humanitarian collapse.
According to Mohammed Zidan, one of editors of the publication, the book aims to serve as a document of memory that preserves voices of journalists in occupied Palestine, particularly in Gaza Strip, as eye-witnesses to genocide and as participants in genocide resistance through professional and committed journalism at the same time, an unprecedented challenge in the history of journalism.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Ahaddad, a contributor to editing the book, explained that “We Covered the War Alone” seeks to place the personal experiences of journalists within a clearer context that cannot be conveyed through screens or traditional news reports. According to Ahaddad, the meaning of writing and bearing witness in occupied Palestine during Israeli aggression helps re‑examine the concept of “survival” and places it under continuous questioning, especially as genocide against Palestinians has not ceased yet.
First published in 2024 in both digital and print editions, the book seeks to provide a reference source for researchers and those interested in the history of media and testimony, to honor Palestinian journalists who continued to perform their duty under exceptional circumstances, and to give them space to tell their stories as they have never been told before.
