AJMI releases the 41st issue of Journalism Magazine, celebrating 10 Years of Its success

AJMI - Doha

Al Jazeera Media Institute has released the 41st issue of Journalism Magazine, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of its launch. This special edition revisits the journey of an Arab knowledge project that has accompanied transformations of journalism, explored its major questions, and provided a space for dialogue between professional practice and knowledge production.

The issue features a special dossier titled 'Documentary Film: A Critical Perspective,' bringing together studies and articles that examine contemporary documentary filmmaking and its evolving forms, from reality and interpretation to short documentaries in the era of digital platforms, as well as documentary drama as an alternative narrative approach to the unseen camera.

The edition also discusses topics related to war reporting, media recovery in Gaza, the future of newsrooms in the age of artificial intelligence, and career progression in television journalism. In addition, it includes articles exploring the emerging Syrian media scene and Moroccan journalism between state support and market dominance.

Iman Al Ameri, Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute, affirmed that over the past decade the magazine has established itself as a platform combines academic depth with field experience. She noted that more than 1,200 writers from around the world have enriched its content, while its digital presence now reaches an audience of more than half a million followers.

In an editorial titled “In the beginning it was only a Question”, Montaser Marai, the founder of the magazine and Director of Al Jazeera 360, disclosed the intellectual foundations of the project. He explains that it emerged from the need for an Arab platform that discusses journalism as a profession and a field of knowledge, helping to document Arab journalistic experience and transforming professional expertise into lasting intellectual value that extends beyond the daily news cycle.

For its part, the editorial board reviewed the journey of the magazine since its establishment in 2016, explaining how it evolved from a platform dedicated to documenting journalistic experience into a knowledge project that bridges newsrooms, universities, and research centers, in addition to engaging with ethical, editorial, and technological issues facing the profession.

Editor-in-Chief Hossam Wahbe noted that the magazine has broadened its focus over the years from sharing professional experience to addressing intellectual and critical issues related to media. This development has reinforced its role as a bridge between journalistic practice and academic research, consolidating its position as a leading Arab reference in journalism and media studies.

This issue reaffirms Journalism Magazine’s commitment to producing media knowledge and encouraging dialogue on challenges and transformations shaping journalism, backed up with a rich experience of full decade of publishing, documenting and analysis.
