Al Jazeera Media Institute's Al-Sahafa Magazine published its thirty-fifth issue under the title Journalism and Global South: A Journey in search of a meaning.
The issue examines contemporary media issues in the South and challenges facing them in a world full of unequal digital and technological transformations.
It also issue traces the journey of Global South in dealing with data flow and ways it adopts to form its independent media narratives. This point is approached through different analytical articles such as, Challenges of uneven data flow on Southern narratives by Hassan Obaid and Digital colonialism of Global South in front of closed screens by Ahmed Radwan.
Then writer Khaldoun Shami In his article Global South, Bolivia's Mines and Alternative Media: Discussed development of mining radio stations in Bolivia in the framework of North and the South dialectic, while writer Ahmed Nazif in his article " Press, the Global South and Mokhtar Ambo Uprising": Rreviewed the vital role of press in documenting and covering social and political movements in the South.
The issue expanded to deal with problems related to the revolution in the South in an article titled: Have countries of the South benefited from digital revolution? Written by writer Shafi'i Aptedun.
As to covering major political events from a southern media perspective, Tony Caron wrote: Aljazeera Plus, how do we cover the U.S. elections for the Global Sout?
The issue also does not neglect to address the issue of war on Gaza and its impact on the educational aspect, where Ahmed Al-Agha wrote an article under the title, Journalism students in Gaza: Battlefields as a testing field. Alternatively, author Huda Abu Hashem reviews in her article: The Occupation that wants to kill the Press in the West Bank, Impact of Israeli occupation on Press freedom in Palestinian territories.
In the same context, under the title: How did social media platforms become a platform for survivors of genocide war in Palestine? Author Ola Marshoud examined how Palestinians were able to use social media platforms to reflect their suffering to the world. Also, Nasser Adnan Thabet wrote: Killing and targeting journalists, Why Israel gets away with it? The issue of impunity in cases where journalists are deliberately targeted.
This issue also shed light on importance of local journalism in war zones, where Shaarawy Mohamed wrote his article "Local Journalism... The last refuge for Sudanese during war" to discuss the role of the local press in facing security and political challenges.
In the same context, Mohammed Ahdad reviewed in his article: Omar al-Hajj, memoirs of Aljazeera correspondent in ISIS prisons, a critical reading based on “Prisoner of the Wali” book.
Finally, the issue ended by two articles namely, “Descriptive audio commentary for the blind, we don't care about your knowledge”, by writer Humam Kader under the title and "Alone We Covered the War" by journalist Mohammed Zeidan where he presented a book that is going to be launched by the Institute next week to chronicle memory of journalists who lived and are living war of extermination in Palestine.
