Aljazeera Media Institute concludes "Media Skills Week" in Yemen

Aljazeera Media Institute concluded "Media Skills Week" program at Al-Mahra University as part of the Aljazeera Ambassadors Initiative activities, held in Yemen from February 25 to 29.

The closing ceremony was attended by Montaser Marei, manager of Media Initiatives Department at the Institute, and Dr. Anwar Mohammed Kalshat president of Al-Mahra University, and the secretary-general of the Local Council of Al-Mahra province Salem Abdullah Nimer, in addition to trainers who led training programs throughout the training week.

Dr. Kalshat highlighted and valued the role of Aljazeera Media Institute and efforts of trainers who designed and conducted this training program for giving Al-Mahra University the opportunity to launch this program as the first Yemeni university. Stressing that the university is keen to bring media expertise and competencies to develop media capabilities and cadres in Al-Mahra Province.

Dr. Kalshat stressed the importance of media message in serving community, calling on participants to benefit from these courses and reflect concepts and knowledge they learned in reality for their own benefit and benefit of their country, and to demonstrate professional ethics and honor of the press and media in conveying truth with the highest levels of professionalism and responsibility.

In the same context, Montaser Marei expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the presidency of the university for its keenness to develop skills of media professionals and students of media department at the university, and to contribute to supporting teaching styles and developing journalism curriculum.

Raghda Jamal, responsible for the Aljazeera Ambassadors Initiative, thanked the Yemeni Ambassador in Doha, Mr. Rajeh Badi, and the Presidency of Al-Mahra University, represented by Dr. Anwar Kalshat and Dr. Abdullah Bakhash, Head of media department, for their efforts and help to achieve this training program, calling on the university presidency to continue paying attention to rehabilitation of students and journalists in the province.

It is worth noting that the media skills development week, hosted by Al-Mahra University, consists of four training courses and attended by 60 trainees in fields of digital storytelling, news verification, mobile journalism and press narration. Training was led by Montaser Marei, Mohammed Ahdad, a journalist in Initiatives Department and supervisor of Al-Sahafa magazine, Amr Al-Qazzaz, director of Sanad Digital Agency, and Abdullah Al-Shehimi, a producer in the digital newsroom of Al Jazeera Media Network.

During the closing ceremony, the university honored Aljazeera Media Institute,trainers and all graduates of the training program.
