AJMI - Doha

Al Jazeera Media Institute has completed a three-days training course on basics of writing and journalistic editing via visual communication technology for the benefit of Education above all Foundation.

Trainer Mohamed Zeidan, who presented this course, said that it dealt with basic theoretical principles of writing a newspaper article, and relied on provoking critical discussions with trainees about digital media environment and "attention economy" and decline of writing authority in favor of image and video through social media platforms.

Trainees of the workshop were also introduced to the three basic stages for writing a newspaper article, from pre-writing stage, writing stage and ending with the process of reviewing, editing and preparing for publication. The course focuses on dealing with writing as a non-linear process in which stages may overlap to support thesis of the article and the angle of treatment.

In the same context, the Institute completed a “Digital Editing” training course in Turkey presented by trainer Mahmoud Al-Adam, where he introduced participants to characteristics of multiple digital platforms, understanding their audience and its differences, how to identify their needs in addition to editorial and technical adaptation of content to match needs of different audiences and types of digital platform and their relevant characteristics. Participants in the course were able to identify and process appropriate materials for digital platforms according to the nature of the platform, audience and target in addition to producing interactive editorial content that can be widely shared on digital platforms.
