AJMI - Doha

As part of the Al Jazeera Ambassadors initiative, and in cooperation with Oran International Festival of Arab Film in Algeria, Al Jazeera Media Institute held two training courses in film production for 26 trainees.

Fatma Al-Rayahi, a producer at Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, delivered a documentary film production course for nine trainees over 25 training hours. The course covered basics of documentary filmmaking, storytelling methods and artistic structure, in addition to developing scripts that serve visual storytelling and enhancing editing skills.

Trainee Sarah Jbeli explained that she learned how to transform an idea into a visual vision serving a human message, managing both team and time in documentary film production, as well as mastering skills of visual storytelling, building trust with characters and crafting impactful stories from simple realities. She affirmed that the most important thing she acquired was the precise working methodology that combines credibility with narrative beauty, expressing her eagerness to apply it in her upcoming projects within a media environment that shares the values she learned.

In the same context, Eyad Al-Daoud conducted a mobile cinema course for 17 male and female trainees over five days. Where participants learned about modern tools for film production using mobile phones and understanding new trends in digital film storytelling and directing. The course focused on hands-on training for filming, editing writing and directing through mobile devices, enabling each participant to produce a complete mobile film.

Course participants praised knowledge and skills they acquired, particularly understanding camera angles and their meanings, as well as exploring editing and filming applications available on smartphones. They affirmed that these new insights will enhance their creative abilities in visual production.

Journalist Khadija Ben Qanna attended the closing ceremony of the two training programs and graduation projects, where she hailed trainees’ efforts and wished them continued success.

These two courses come as part of Aljazeera Media Institute’s efforts to expand media training across Arab world and equip young people with practical skills that enable them to create professional visual content that expresses their stories and experiences in innovative ways.
