As part of Al Jazeera Ambassadors Initiative, Al Jazeera Media Institute held two specialized online courses on writing and direction for the fourth edition of “Idraak” Short Film Festival, with a total participation of 33 male and female trainees.
In a related context, trainer Malik Samir conducted a three-day training course from September 28 for 19 participants of “Idraak” Short Film Festival. Course sessions focused on clarifying fundamental concepts of documentary filmmaking, enhancing storytelling and artistic structure skills, introducing participants to creating shooting scenarios that support visual storytelling, and developing their documentary montage abilities.
Meanwhile, trainer Raghda Jamal focused on equipping participants with necessary skills on scriptwriting and proper story development. Participants learned about different types of writing and distinctions between short stories and novels, as well as other forms of creative writing and narrative techniques. They explored storytelling fundamentals such as theme, characters, plot, time/place and perspective. Participants affirmed that these skills would directly enhance their work and will help them craft more creative and impactful content.
It is worth noting that “Idraak” Short Film Festival is held under patronage of “Tawakkol Karman Foundation” in its fourth edition. The festival aims to show creativity of young Arab filmmakers and empower them to use art as a means of expressing humanitarian and cultural issues.
