AJMI and Qatar University launch two diplomas

Al Jazeera Media Institute, in cooperation with Qatar University, has launched two specialised diplomas in Digital Media and Television Broadcasting. The programmes were announced on Sunday, 28 June, at a ceremony held in the Al Jazeera Auditorium, as part of a strategic partnership designed to enhance specialised media training and to bridge academic education with professional practice, preparing media professionals able to keep pace with rapid changes in the media industry.

The event was attended by a number of officials from Al Jazeera Media Institute and Qatar University, together with 32 trainees from the Department of Mass Communication at the College of Arts and Sciences. Of these, 18 enrolled in the Digital Media Diploma and 14 in the Television Broadcasting Diploma.

Eman Al-Amri, Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, said the programme offers journalism and media students at Qatar University a practical opportunity to test and develop their skills in a professional environment that mirrors real newsroom operations and television and digital production platforms. She noted that this experience allows students to learn from expert trainers and to build professional networks that will support their future entry into the media job market in Qatar and beyond.

For her part, Dr. Sita Ali Al-Adhbah, Assistant Dean for Languages, Media and Translation at the College of Arts and Sciences, expressed her pride in this partnership, describing it as a model of complementarity between academic education and professional practice. She added that the initiative helps prepare media professionals capable of keeping up with the transformations taking place in the media sector.

Dr. Al-Adhbah explained that the programmes enable students to move from theory to hands-on application, and to acquire the skills they need to enter the job market with confidence and competence. She said she hopes this partnership will mark the beginning of a promising media journey for Qatar University students.

Outlining the content of the Digital Media and Television Broadcasting diplomas, Dr. Hossam Wahba, Director of Media Initiatives at the Institute, said their launch reflects a shared vision between the two institutions to provide high-quality training programmes that respond to the needs of contemporary media and keep pace with rapid developments in digital media and television broadcasting.

The Digital Media Diploma begins with a course on writing for digital platforms, led by colleague Yousra Al-Asri, followed by a visual composition workshop with Dr. Hossam Wahba. The programme then continues with a course on content production using artificial intelligence, supervised by Yahya Saleem, and a course on strategic planning for digital content with Hiba Aidaroos, before concluding with a mobile journalism course and capstone projects in digital storytelling supervised by Abdullah Al-Shuhaimi.

The Television Broadcasting Diploma starts with a course on the fundamentals of television broadcasting, supervised by Ali Haji, followed by a visual composition workshop with Dr. Hossam Wahba and a sound engineering course with Mohamed Hussein. It then offers a television directing course led by Mohamed Hussein Abdelmonem, and concludes with a course on live in-studio editing and graduation projects supervised by Ali Haji.​
