E-learning Platform launches “War reporting” course

AJMI - Doha

Al Jazeera E-learning platform launched its latest course on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the war of extermination in Gaza, a course related to press coverage of wars and armed conflicts presented by Guevara Al-Budairi, Al Jazeera correspondent in Palestine.

The course sheds light on the experiences of a number of reporters, who risked their lives in order to convey the Palestinian narrative to the world, and to document crimes against humanity that civilians are subjected to. It also elaborates on concepts related to war, but many confuse them, the most important of which is conflict, conflict types and reasons behind conflicts, Conflict settlement mechanisms and the difference between the two terms and to what extent they are related to war and crisis?

The course also discusses ethical issues related to journalistic work in areas of chaos and armed conflict, in light of Western media institutions biased coverage of what is happening in Gaza, including redefinition of neutrality and objectivity, what is a conflict-sensitive press, and does journalism profession standards deprive a journalist his/her humanity?

It is noteworthy that Guevara Al-Budairi joined Al Jazeera in 2001 and has more than 23 years of experience in the field of journalism, during which she covered six wars on Gaza and contributed in covering July 2006 war. She prepared and presented the documentary "Palestine in Focus" and contributed to covering field events in Egypt, Turkey, France and other countries.
