New courses at AJMI: Augmented reality brings TV stories to life

AJMI - Doha

How can 3D graphics become part of a television story in a way that helps viewers better understand its details? This is the question explored in the Institute’s latest training course, “Augmented Reality in TV Reports,” that will be held by Al Jazeera Media Institute from 15 to 19 November, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The course introduces participants to the use of augmented reality in producing reports that blend real-life footage with digital elements. It also explores how to select and design these elements in ways that serve the journalistic content while preserving clarity of the message and its visual balance.

The course covers fundamentals of augmented reality and its applications in television, the difference between augmented and virtual reality, the software and equipment used, techniques for integrating 3D graphics, tracking and animation tools, and preparations for filming.

It also focuses on the relationship between media scripts and digital content, from selecting elements that best fit a report’s script to crafting a narrative that works seamlessly with them. The aim is to explain information clearly and capture viewers’ attention without creating visual clutter.

Part of the Institute’s audiovisual journalism training program, the course is designed for participants with a basic understanding of media principles and television reporting, as well as a serious interest in digital technologies and media innovation.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Al Jazeera Media Institute at the end of the course.
