Al Jazeera Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Media, next Saturday

Al Jazeera Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Media will kick off on Saturday throughout Sunday, January 11th and 12th, at the Sheraton Doha Hotel. The conference is organized by Al Jazeera Media Institute and will be attended by a selected group of specialists and experts in the field of media and technology.
In its second edition, the conference is going to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in improving news quality and accuracy and reviewing applications of the latest tools in media industry, in addition to presenting successful international experiments for employing artificial intelligence in newsrooms. The conference will also discuss legal and ethical challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence, as well as providing a free space for discussion on artificial intelligence impact on media employees.
The first session on the first day will discuss the latest artificial intelligence tools used in media with a qualitative participation of Dr. Yousry Mohdeb, a senior digital officer at Google Cloud Platform, Mr. Rabih Saad, senior director of solution engineering at Sisco, Mr. Shadi Haddad, regional director of data, artificial intelligence and innovation at Microsoft, Mr. Daniel Hare, Founder and CEO of Zeotap, and Mr. Vinicius Vasconcelos, senior advisor and head of media practices at IBM. The second session on the same day will discuss experiment of Aljazeera Media Network utilization of artificial intelligence and will shed light on the role of artificial intelligence in developing media work in Aljazeera Network, through reviewing smart applications and tools used throughout various channels and sectors of the Network , in addition to AI role in collecting, processing and publishing news and contingency plans adopted to deal with any technical hindrance or error that may occur due to the use of this technology in newsrooms. This session will be featured by the following speakers: Mr. Ramzan Al Nuaimi, director of creativity department at Al Jazeera Media Network, Mr. Asif Hamidi, News manager at Aljazeera Arabic Channel, Mr. David Hostiter, director of product development department at Aljazeera Media Network and Dr. Mohammed bin Naamoun, artificial intelligence expert at Al Jazeera Network.
The first session of the second day will discuss Artificial Intelligence in newsrooms as a pioneering experiment, through reviewing pioneering experiments of using artificial intelligence tools in media. The session will discuss successful examples of different media organizations around the world including experiments of Reuters, Washington Post, Associated Press and News Without Borders, to highlight the importance of employing artificial intelligence and modern technologies in journalism. Co-speaker in this session include, Joey Marburger, Vice President of artificial intelligence content at RX, David Wilkinson, CEO of Reuters Imagine, Troy Thibodeau, director of AI products and services at Associated Press and Takashi Usuji, CEO of No Border, a journalist and entrepreneur.
The second session will address challenges associated with artificial intelligence use in media and will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on the profession of journalism from an academic perspective, in addition to focusing on some aspects related to Arabic language, "algorithmic bias" and the values and ethics of journalism, The session will also address important issues such as, reshaping artificial intelligence for the future of journalistic work, challenges related to public confidence in content produced by machine, in addition to cybersecurity issues and the need to develop a suitable educational curricula and training programs to keep pace with accelerated technological developments. Co-speakers in this session include, Dr. Mark Jones, associate professor at Northwestern University in Qatar, Mr. Giles Trendel, a media consultant, Dr. Amani Al-Abed, assistant professor at Doha University of Science and Technology, Dr. Rima Diab, founder and president of Galaxy Technology and Mr. Abdulrahman Al Shafi, director of Cybersecurity Strategy and Policy.
In addition to all of the above, the conference will review 3 papers from Al Jazeera Fellowship Program for 2024 that provided multiple insights on how to use artificial intelligence technology for developing journalism practices in the future, in addition to holding 4 training workshops on the sidelines of the conference. The first workshop consists of two parts, the first part will be on “Exploitation of artificial intelligence technologies from Google Cloud platform to enhance content strategy and audience interaction”, under supervision of trainer: Muhammad Khader from Google, and the second part will address “Excellence in the age of Artificial Intelligence, and how CDBS customer data platforms help media organizations transform data into domain leadership” trainer by trainer Muhammad Ali from Zeotab.
The second workshop title is “Revolutionizing news production, how to create video reports in 15 minutes”, trained by Dean Arnett from Thomson Foundation. The third workshop will deal with “Artificial intelligence in media, tools applied, ethics and creative cooperation” trained by Abran Maldonado, Ambassador of OpenEye. Finally, the fourth workshop will be presented by Al Jazeera Media Institute.
The conference will also include technology exhibition, where a number of companies that rely on artificial intelligence for developing products and services will participate, providing participants with the opportunity to learn about recent innovations in this field.
