A new course is available on the e-learning platform

AJMI - Doha
The Al Jazeera Media Institute’s eLearning platform launched a new course this June on its English interface titled Travel Journalism, a 15-lesson journey into the craft of storytelling through the lens of travel. This course is designed for aspiring journalists, content creators, and curious explorers who want to move beyond sightseeing and into the heart of meaningful, responsible travel reporting.
Unlike typical travel writing, this course dives into the journalistic approach to travel: asking hard questions, highlighting untold stories, and navigating the ethical complexities of representing people and places. Learners will explore how to find story angles that go deeper than postcards and bucket lists, learn essential skills like pre-trip research, how to deal with unexpected situations, photography, and interviewing, and gain the confidence to pitch and publish their work.
The course also tackles timely and critical topics such as avoiding cultural stereotypes, reporting with sensitivity, and promoting sustainability in travel journalism. With case studies like Pakistan’s media portrayal, and lessons on elevating diverse voices, the course reflects the Institute’s commitment to inclusive and ethical storytelling.
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your narrative voice, understand the realities of on-the-ground reporting, or simply explore the world through a more critical lens, Travel Journalism offers a dynamic, self-paced learning experience rooted in real-world practice and journalistic integrity.
