AJMI organises a seminar in Spain on journalism ethics

AJMI - Doha

The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI), in collaboration with the European-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies and the University of Granada in Spain, hosted a seminar entitled "Palestine: Journalism Ethics in Countering Deception."

The seminar focused on different forms of media bias and deception in the coverage of the Gaza conflict by Western media organisations, as well as the impact of such reporting on journalism standards and principles.

Discussions during the seminar explored the issue of media accountability, particularly among those claiming to be watchdogs of power, while also facing accusations of complicity in war crimes and justification of attacks on civilians in conflict areas.

Additionally, the seminar presented excerpts from past trials involving media outlets found to be complicit in acts of genocide, such as the trials of journalists in Rwanda.

This further underscores the significance of the press adhering to professional ethics and avoiding bias when reporting on conflicts.
