AJMI Participates in a Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Social Justice

Al Jazeera Media Institute will participate in a virtual seminar on “Artificial Intelligence, Social Justice, and Decent Work for All” on February 25/ 2026. The event is organized in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, National Human Rights Committee in Qatar, and Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, with the participation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
The seminar aims to examine the role of media in shaping public discourse on decent work and social protection within the context of rapid digital transformation. The main panel discussion, moderated by Ms. Jessy Chahine from the OHCHR Regional Office, will explore the balance between the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in advancing social justice. Panelists include Mr. Osama Safa, Regional Adviser on Social Justice at ESCWA, and Dr. Mai Shingnobu, media professional and academic specializing in media studies, and editor of the English edition of (AL-SAHAFA MAGAZINE)/ Journalism Review of Al Jazeera Media Institute. The seminar will also address risks of misinformation or oversimplified narratives in covering digital transformation and its impact on labor market, as well as opportunities presented by AI tools in newsrooms alongside ethical challenges associated with their use.
The event underscores the responsibility of journalists and media organizations to highlight the most marginalized groups amid digital transformation, and stresses importance of strengthening media professionals’ capacities to better understand labor issues, social protection and digital policies, in order to ensure responsible media narratives that uphold human rights and advance social justice.
The program consists of an opening session and keynote remarks by H.E. Mr. Mazen Shaqoura, H.E. Ms. Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, and H.E. Mr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali. Followed by the main panel discussion, an interactive dialogue with participants and concluding remarks and recommendations presented by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
