AJMI PUBLISHES OPEN-SOURCE INVESTIGATIONS HANDBOOK

AJMI – Doha

Al Jazeera Media Institute has published a new guide for journalists on conducting open-source investigations.

AJMI’s Open Source Investigations Handbook, available in both Arabic and English, is a comprehensive guide to all aspects of working with open-source intelligence, from sourcing, cleaning and analysing information and data right through to publishing stories and investigations.

The Handbook will help you develop a toolbox for conducting open-source investigations and will teach you to identify and protect yourself from the legal and digital risks associated with mining open-source intelligence for information.

Learn how to verify video, track the movements of ships and planes, analyse satellite images and use geolocation and chronolocation to assist with your investigation. Our handbook will also explain how to identify weapons, find out who owns corporations and investigate the offshore affairs of both individual and corporate actors.

Finally, the handbook covers ethical issues relating to open-source investigation and provides a wide range of online sources and tools which you can make use of.
