Narrative Journalism from idea to story, A new online course on E-Learning Platform

AJMI - Doha

The E-Learning Platform of Al Jazeera Media Institute will launch a new training course titled ‘Narrative in Journalism: Focusing on How to Tell a Sequential, Data-Enriched Story.’ The course aims to develop journalists’ skills in crafting narrative journalistic stories using modern and effective approaches.

The course focuses on promoting participants’ understanding of narrative journalism by introducing elements of a narrative story, the steps of building narrative story and other various narrative techniques—including data-driven storytelling and the role of the writer in story success or failure. The course also promotes practical skills of participants on developing narrative plans, ensuring seamless transitions between story parts and incorporating suspense in a professional manner. The course also addresses creativity boundaries and presence of journalist’s voice in storytelling to ensure adherence to professional ethics and raising narrative journalism quality.

The course is delivered by investigative journalist Mohamed Ahaddad, an editor with Aljazeera Media Institute and a former journalist at Al-Massae, a Moroccan newspaper. He is the author of the book 'Narrative in Journalism,' along with several investigative works. Ahaddad holds a diploma in media and communication, a Master’s degree in Political Science, and is pursuing his PhD at Mohammed V University in Rabat.

This course reflects e-learning Platform’s commitment to keeping pace with professional developments and enhancing competencies of Arab journalists by offering training content that meets newsroom needs and elevates narrative journalism quality in the region.
